32 Fubar Plugins You Can’t Live Without

FuBar is a an addon panel that can feature a wide variety of plugins. It’s a shell that allows you to plugin various compatible mods that are capable of displaying and doing different things. FuBar by itself does nothing. But it can be completely customized by the different FuBar compatible addons that go with it. The information you want displayed is dependent on what you want. It becomes easy to find information.

Features out of the box

  • 1. Drag and drop rearrangement of plugins.
  • 2. Any plugin can exist on left or right or be centered.
  • 3. Automatically adjust frames (can be turned off)
  • 4. Any number of bars (not limited to just 2), you can attach to the top, bottom, or detach any amount you want.
  • 5. Can detach a tooltip and pin it to the UI.
  • 6. Object-oriented design.
  • 7. LoadOnDemand capabilities for plugins.
  • 8. Modularity (absolutely no plugins are intimately connected to the core)
  • 9. Minimal resource usage
  • 10. Lots of handy features for developers.
  • 11. Well documented API.
  • 12. Skinning support
  • 13. Can change the thickness, font size, transparency, spacing through simple sliders on the right-click menu.
  • 14. Can place plugins on the minimap, which will function like standard minimap buttons.
  • 15. Drag the edge of the bar to change its size

All these various addons are designed to plugin to FuBar.

Instead of Professions FU I use SkillsFU, which shows the professions, weapon skills and all for all the toons you have. Much more usefull if you have alts with different professions while levelling them…

I can think of 5 more FuBar Plugins that you missed that I find indispensable:

LocationFu tells me where I am (down to coordinates) as well as giving a list of recommended zones for my level.

GarbageFu tells me what I can get rid of, and automatically gets rid of it for me at a merchant.

Wintergraspfu tells me when the next Wintergrasp is.

InnBoundFu tells me where I’m bound, and is one click away from hearthing

RestFu tells me how much rested xp my alts have, and gives me a depressingly large number for my total /played amongst all my characters.

  4. Cal on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

The only one I would outright replace on that list would be FactionsFu. It doesn’t work with the new headings-as-reputations like the Alliance Vanguard or Horde Expedition so when I was working with my rep for them, it was useless.

I replaced it with Broker Factions (and Broker2FuBar). It also has a nice option letting you hide exalted reputations in the tooltip.

I also like Broker ItemRack better than the FuBar plugin.

The other neat thing about Broker2FuBar is that a good number of mods come with LibDataBroker support so you can drop mods like RecountFu and AtlasLootFu.

  6. Aurdon on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Matt you should do a sister post with the Broker plugins. I use it now instead of Fubar and for the Fubar addons that don’t translate over there is a converter (Fubar2Broker I think) that handles “most” of them.

  8. Dan on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Thanks for the list, but there are a few huge problems:

    (1) ChannelwatchFu breaks the /who command, possibly because it hasn’t been updated in over 6 months (in other words, hasn’t been updated since Wrath came out!)

    (2) PuntFu also hasn’t been updated since Wrath. I (obviously) couldn’t make it work with newer buffs.

    (3) RaidLog is not actually downloadable from the link you provided. Curse took it down, claiming “addon seems dead.” Incidentally, I know the author of this addon from a completely different non-WoW circle of friends; I didn’t even know he played WoW, so I’m glad to have bumped into him this way and sent him a note asking about the status of this addon.

  9. Matticus on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Dan: Thanks for the update! Adjusted these as necessary.

  10. Dan on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Thanks for the thanks, Matticus! To be clear, the ChannelWatchFu addon works perfectly, it simply breaks the /who command. In other words, all the functionality ChannelWatchFu claims to provide exists, it just also happens to make the /who command not work.

Specifically, /who doesn’t work if your search term returns enough results that it would have to pop up a window. If you do /who sometoon, you’ll get the result in your chat box like normal. But if you do /who somebigguild, you’ll get no output whatsoever.

From a coder point of view fubar is old, bloated and based on a now unsupported framework. Broker-based addons are much better at doing what fubar did, problem is that explaining the difference in how they run is subtle…
It’s a shortcoming of the coder community to come up with great things and not knowing how to market it to the masses…

  12. KiwiRed on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I use AllPlayed (on Curse/WoWAce) to keep track of rested xp (and where my alts are located, and my horrendous /played), an alternative to RestFu.

Update on RaidLog. I made a minor bugfix update and the download is available again.

  14. Copra on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I have to correct myself: the fubar addon is SkillsPlusFu.

I tried Broker for a while but didn’t like it: the cellular looks and the kind of irrational way it functioned on me just put me back to ‘old and bloated’ Fu.

Matt, request: Broker for the dummies?

    @Copra:
We have at least two if not several more Broker posts in the works. One is going to cover all the common Broker display addons, and one is going to cover why Broker is arguably better from an addon author’s POV. But in response to your distaste for the looks, you may want to give a different display a shot. It sounds like you probably tried Fortress? From my experiences, NinjaPanel, ButtonBin, and DockingStation all are more similar to FuBar, or can be configured to be so.

thank you! I broke down and got Fubar with a few addons and am really happy with the results. I can’t get it to read my omen but thats not too much of an issue with my ui. And I love seeing my durability % now! :)

FuXPFu is still handy to track reputation (or XP when leveling). I wonder why there is no generalized version that tracks whatever is trackable by number; professions come to my mind.

  18. Mass on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

I used to use Fubar, but the CPU load just seemed too high, and I couldn’t use it in 25 man raids without significant frame rate loss. Since, I’ve switched to ChocolateBar with a few broker plugins.

What are the pros and cons to fubar v titan panel?

  21. Kestrel on Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Interestingly enough, my article on “FuBar vs. TitanPanel” remains the most-read article on my blog, even though it has a disclaimer now that it’s outdated, and my review of LibDataBroker is much more relevant.

Of course, the fact that many FuBar addons work seamlessly with LDB is a huge plus. Fubar2LDB is a must, and I would strongly recommend AuditorFu over MoneyFu: A lot more info, especially if someone is an AH player at all.

I use FriendsFu and GuildFu as well. Nice heads up counter of guildies/friends and quick view of their names with a mouseover.
