6 Useful Addons for Forgetful People

Ever shown up at a raid with your armor almost destroyed? Ever run out of arrows on a boss fight? Ever forgotten to buff yourself after you’ve resurrected? You might call someone a noob for making these mistakes, but they happen to the best of us. And if you’re like me, and they happen a little more often than you’d like, some of these addons might help you keep your head on straight.

freerefills

1. FreeRefills: This addon will automatically refill your inventory of items specified by you every time you visit a vendor. It will pick up food, water, ammo and other reagents as long as they are sold by the vendor. You can also have it refill at the bank – make sure you’ve got enough Potions on you!

durabilityfu

2. DurabilityFu: This is a FuBar plugin, so you’ll need to have FuBar to get it working. When you visit a repair vendor, this will automatically repair all your gear for you. I would recommend putting it in “Show repair popup” mode, in case you want to hold off until you’re at the appropriate rep vendor. This will instead popup a handy window asking you if you want to repair every time the option is available.

powa

3. Power Auras Classic: This is the be-all end-all of reminder addons. It’s a bit complex, but when you manage to sort through the configuration settings, you’ll find you can have it alert you every time you don’t (or do!) have a buff, or whenever a useful proc is available. This is handy for many cases, such as changing Hunter Aspects, Death Knight presences or making sure you remember to use your Pyroblast when Hot Streak procs.

autoprofitx

4. AutoProfitX: Keep your bags clear of junk with this addon! Every time you visit a vendor, you can sell all your grey junk without having to browse through your bags. You can also add items to include or ignore, if you are trying to keep your [Green Shiny] and don’t want to accidentally forget and vendor it.

buffenough

5. BuffEnough: This will scan your party/raid composition and let you know if you’re missing any buffs you should have. You can use it to remind the other forgetful people who haven’t remembered to buff you as well!

multishot

6. MultiShot: This will automatically take screenshots every time you level, get an achievement or kill a boss. I wish I’d leveled up originally with this, it’d be nice to be able to look back and see screenshots of each of my 79 dings!

Note: There is no configuration setup for this mod. If you’d rather it didn’t take a screenshot of every boss kill, just erase or comment out (put a double hyphen before it) the following line (line 522):

self:RegisterEvent("PLAYER_ENTERING_WORLD")

Instead of AutoProfitX, which is 127kb and includes several Ace libraries, I always recommend Junk, which is a mod that does the same thing but is only 2kb. There are a half dozen mods that do this same thing, but I have had problems with some of them which include libraries. If you have a fast computer it doesn’t really matter, but I have had great success with Junk, which is available at http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info6788-Junk.html

Thanks, Wikwocket! I had switched to another lower memory addon earlier but it broke, so I went back to AutoProfitX. I’ll give Junk a try though. I can always use more free memory!

I’ll definitely be adding Multishot and BuffEnough :). Thanks! I personally use SellJunk rather than AutoProfitX because SellJunk is more recently updated.. Junk! looks good too, but I’d like mine to have a nice GUI menu for configuration. I’d also recommend RepairBroker for those who use a LibDataBroker display instead of FuBar. SellJunk and RepairBroker are on WoW Curse.

Great AddOns, I too wish I had MultiShot installed… I forgot about this lovely.

PowerAuras, however, is a VERY potent mod. For a pretty decent write up (which, for full disclosure, I wrote) http://www.talesofapriest.com/2008/12/add-on-corner-power-auras.html has a pretty concise recap.

    great post.

    @Brajana @Wikwocket:
For the sole purpose of auto-selling my grays, I use tekJunkSeller. It’s never let me down and it’s also very tiny, just like Junk. More options are always good in my book, and Tekkub does some really high-quality work.

PowerAuras is a very nice mod. It has a lot of options that can be applied for both combat relevant information as well as visual decoration. A fun mod, for sure.

The other mods look very interesting. I might try a few :)

I forget stuff all the time. Especially turning on the combatlog for WWS generation

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/loggerhead.aspx

Will turn the CL to record whenever I enter a raid instance and turn it off when I leave it.

thek tools will do auto repair and auto selling of grey items and toons of more little things that make your life just some klicks easier. You might need basic understanding of .lua though to edit out the stuff you don’t need.

Is there any reason I should be using AutoprofitX over Selljunk, Junk, tekJunkSeller, CrapAway, or Scrap? More light-weight perhaps?

  17. Brajana on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

They are all mostly personal preference. None of them take huge amounts of memory, but a few of them do use less. The only ones I’ve tried are AutoProfitX and Junk, but I’ve been having issues with Junk’s ignore list (doesn’t seem to be working and keeps selling my Brew Bottles!)

Some of them also have slightly different functionality, some auto-sell when you talk to a vendor, some require you to hit a button before the sale does through. I prefer to have it in my control rather than have it happen automatically… again, it’s all about persona preference!

A slightly lighter, and more limited, alturnative to PowerAura is Nao!. Nao! takes care of any tallent based proc such as Surge of Light, Hot Streak, etc. It does not show things you cast on yourself or are casted on you such as PI. I find it is easy to tell when something has been casted on me, or when I have hit a trinket, but not when a talent procs (no animation). Nao! shows me what I almost always miss w/o using a lot or memory or overloading me.

    Just a thought.

It’ll save them to your regular Screenshots folder. This is within your World of Warcraft folder (C:/Program Files/World of Warcraft/Screenshots on XP)

don’t waste memory with a add-on to sell all your grey items just copy/paste this into a macro…it will sell all the grey items in your bags with one push of a button…best macro ever!

    /script for bag = 0, 4 do for slot = 1, GetContainerNumSlots(bag) do local name = GetContainerItemLink(bag,slot) if name and string.find(name,”ff9d9d9d”) then DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(“Selling “..name) UseContainerItem(bag,slot) end end end
