Bag addons: everyone has one, and everyone has their own needs for managing their inventory. Do you just need a simple consolidation of all your bags into one frame, or do you want somewhat more? Do you need tooltip reminders telling you how much of something you have? How about across all characters? Does it need to include the guild bank? Do you need to organize things in your own, user-definable categories, or would you rather the addon did it for you? I’m here to help you decide.
Bagnon
Bagnon, by Tuller, is a simple all-in-one bag frame with some customization options. You can select how many rows your bags display with, as well as the color of the frame. Bagnon also comes with Bagnon_Forever and Bagnon_Tooltips, which keep track of how many of an item you have on each of your characters and then adds that information to the tooltips. It also has a search feature, which I find especially handy at the bank. (I have way too many things in there.) You can access it by clicking the title of the frame. Bagnon also has the ability to allow you to see what’s in your bank when you’re not near a banker. You won’t be able to take anything out, of course, but you can at least see what you have without making the long trek to a city. The only downside is that it does not count or log Guild Bank items, so if you have a bank alt with it’s own guild, any items you store in there won’t be added to the tooltips and also won’t be accessible for you to see without being near a guild vault. Bagnon also doesn’t include items in your mailbox in these counts.
Bagnon would be good for you if:
- You have a hard time remembering items you left on your bank alt or alts and how much he/she has.
- You want a simple all-in-one bag frame for both your bag and bank and want to choose what color that frame is.
- You want a search function.
- You want to be able to see what’s in your bank when you’re not near a banker.
Combuctor
Combuctor is Tuller’s second bag addon, made after Bagnon. Combuctor is very similar to Bagnon in that it consolidates your bag and bank into one frame, uses the Bagnon_Forever and Bagnon_Tooltips, you can see what’s in your bank from afar, and also has search functionality. However, unlike Bagnon, Combuctor looks more like it’s part of the original Blizzard interface, and you cannot customize this look.
Combuctor also has this neat sorting thing: Tabs! You’ll notice on the bottom and side of your bag/bank frame and are tabs. The bottom tabs sort by bag-type: “Normal” is any normal bag that can hold any item. “Trade” are specialty bags like herb bags, mining bags, enchanting bags, etc. The “Keys” tab is pretty obvious; That’s your keyring. The tabs on the side sort your inventory by item-type: There’s “Equipment” which shows all wearable gear; “Usable” which shows all items that can be used by your character, such as badges, mana/health potions, food/drink, consumables; “Quest” which shows items related to quests; “Trade Goods” which shows all items related to professions such as cloth, gems, enchanting mats, and frozen orbs; and last (but not least) the “Miscellaneous” tab for everything else.
Another way Combuctor can sort items is by quality. On the bottom of the frame, above the bottom tabs, are 7 circle-shaped buttons with color corresponding to item quality. The one button without a quality is “All,” the grey is “Poor,” white is “Common,” green is “Uncommon,” blue is “Rare,” purple is “Epic,” and orange is “Legendary.”
Combuctor would be good for you if:
- You want an all-in-one frame for both your bag and bank but want it to match the default Blizzard frames.
- You want item counts for all characters in your tooltips.
- You want a search function.
- You want to be able to see what’s in your bank when you’re not near a banker.
- You want to sort items by quality.
- You want to sort items by type.
TBag
TBag, by Shefki, has a rather amusing name. (That could be offensive to some people?) However, once you get past that, the addon auto-sorts your inventory for you into groups based on item-type. These groupings are somewhat customizable, but doing so can get confusing. There’s no way to sort your items by quality instead of item type from what I can see. There is, however, a search option. I didn’t like TBag as much as I could have, mostly because it felt too difficult to customize, there was no way to scale it down, and it took up a good portion of my screen especially in edit mode. I had to keep clicking and dragging the frame around so that I could see everything that was in it. It also doesn’t have any sort of tooltip or item counting feature.
TBag would be good for you if:
- You want to have your bag and bank auto-sorted for you straight “out of the box” that you don’t have to customize, but can if you want to.
- You want a search function.
- You want an all-in-one frame for both bag and bank.
ArkInventory
ArkInventory, by Arkayenro, at first just looks like a simple one-frame deal like Bagnon. However, it has the ability to sort your items into groups YOU define, and in that sense has a look similar to TBag without all the extra space and the taking-up-your-whole-screen thing. ArkInventory is scalable, as well. So if you find yourself with a ton of groups in your bank and it’s a bit too big for you, you can always scale it down. I set both my bank and bag at 80%. ArkInventory also has some great functions: it has a search feature, you can customize the colors, you can check other character’s banks/bags, and it also has a tooltip/counting feature like Bagnon does. The thing about it though that really sets it apart is that it includes your guild bank. That’s right, you read that correctly! It’s the first bag addon I’ve come across that also changed the look of your guild bank and included it’s contents in your tooltips. It also tells you how much an item you have in your mailbox, which Bagnon doesn’t do! You can also view the contents of any of your character’s bags, banks, or guild banks even if you’re not logged into them. You can even do this across realms! Ark really covers all the bases, even if it’s not the prettiest looking thing.
ArkInventory would be good for you if:
- You need to know the counts of items in all your character’s bags, banks, mailbox, and guild banks in your tooltips.
- You need a search function.
- You want to sort your items into groups that YOU define.
- You want to actually be able to view the contents of your character’s bags/banks/guild banks, even if you’re logged into a different toon.
FBag of Holding
FBag of Holding, by Feithar, is an interesting combination of user-definable sorting (ala ArkInventory) and tabs (ala Combuctor). However, it only works for your bag frame. You can add a bank and guild-bank tab (like I did in the screenshot) but you wouldn’t be able to move items between bags using those tabs, they only allow you to see what is in there. Besides that, though, it’s a great combination of the user-definable grouping and tabbing. I would use this over ArkInventory if it included the same functionality for the bank. FBag of Holding also adds item counts to your tooltips in the same manner as Bagnon.
FBag of Holding would be good for you if:
- You need a search function.
- You want item counts across characters in your tooltips.
- You want user-definable sorting.
- You want that sorting to be in tabs.
- You don’t mind having the default interface for your bank.
If there are any other bag addons out there that do something different, please let me know that I missed them! If there’s enough feedback, I might do a round two. ;)
Thanks for reading, and good luck choosing the right one for you!

Hi
My Fav will always be Arkinventory. Just something i noted in all the screenies is the addon called Fizzle/fizzle bag that show the items colour in the frame around it. Also a must have for me.
Thanks
Have they fixed ArkInventory? Last time I was using it it was not working all the time. There would be times that I would log in and my bag/bank would be grayed out. I would have to reload ui multiple times to be able to move anything in my bags. I know a guild member mentioned that they were having the same problem within the last 2 weeks.
I’m using ArkInventory for long time, would never change it and can’t go without it :)
I had that graying out issue once, just updated to latest and never seen it again.
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/baggins.aspx
Baggins is what I use. Nicely grouped by whatever filters you want/create and can stack everything. Only thing I’m missing is baggins support for guild bank :)
For a very different take on inventory, try Baud Manifest:
http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/baud-manifest.aspx
You get a textual list, and can create categories to group items.
@Random-Hero Actually, I am not using those addons that you mentioned. If the item is highlighted in it’s corresponding color-quality in the screenshot, that is because the bag addon includes that feature.
what?! No Baggins in review? How could you!
@mesh I only downloaded ones that had screenshots, and Baggins had none on the download page. It’s on the list for Round 2, though.
Wow, I can’t believe Baggins wasn’t mentioned.
I was a long time Baggins user, but honestly, there weren’t any updates in a very long time. So even if it is still a good bag mod, it’s just updated and especially the fantastic sorting in categories is not all northrend ready.
I switched to cargBags, an addon with low memory usage in mind, not fancy features I won’t use anyway.

There’s always room for a round 2 of bag addons.
Arkinventory is by far my fav bag mod. I was also having the issue of grayed out bags and it made it annoying. So i decided to try something else only to find myself back to Arkinventory! ;)

@Matticus
That’s what I said! There’s sooo many.
What’s a good bag mod for a hybrid with 3 types of gear??
@Jagg
I would say from these 5, ArkInventory would be the best for you, since you can organize your gear in their own categories by type, like I have mine in the screenshot. (You’ll see a “PVP” group and a “Shadow” group.)
Even if Baggins is outdated, it’s still my preferred, if only because I don’t get a cluttered up view of my categories (after I set it up to one-bag view, it’s always row-oriented, instead of block-orented, like many of those other addons), and can just minimize the ones taking up uneeded space (like the Trade Goods and Other categories).
@Jagg, I dunno about the other addons, but I have a couple hybrid-role toons, and I use Baggins-Outfitter to have separate categories for the gear on each Outfitter, uh, outfits. It’s really good when you get excess gear from questing/drops on your bags and you want to know at a glance what are you using on your outfits so you can dispose/put it on the bank easily. ^^
@Jagg:
As a hybrid myself, I (sometimes) use the following combination: Outfitter, Baggins, and Baggins_LibFilter. The last allows you to create filters based on whether an item is included in an Outfitter set, or which one. It was a bit involved to set up, but it works great. However, it’s a fairly bulky solution, and during raid times I stick with Combuctor, et al. Perhaps something to visit on in part 2 (or part 3!) of our bag addons coverage.
Edit: Baggins_LibFilter includes the functionality of Baggins_Outfitter as mentioned by Guinnyn just before me, so we’re running nearly the same set-up. _Outfitter is just the subset that pertains to Outfitter specifically while _LibFilter has a bit more in addition to that. Check the link for more details. _Outfitter might be preferred if you don’t care about any of the rest.
@drug:
At the link above, I see that Baggins was last updated in January. “Very long time” is certainly relative, but that’s at least 3.0.x-compatible and works fine for me. YMMV. That’s the version you would get from Curse.com or the Curse Client, though.
I like the posts but this post was just a little lack luster. I was hoping for a more in depth review of Bag addons. I personally used Arkinventory and it allows you to integrate with Outfitter to build bags that are for you particular gear sets. That is a feature very people know about.
Well either way, I guess I was looking for a topic similar to the AuctionLite+Skillet+Sparky’s Lib. I found that to be an amazing topic.
I’ve tried almost every bag/inventory add-on out there, including ArkInventory, Baggins, Bagnon, among others. My favorite, though, is One Bag (and its corresponding One Bank).
One Bag gives me the opportunity to put all my bags in one frame, yet distinctly separate, and allow me to sort them however I wish. There isn’t much automation, but I’m also not stuck with any arbitrary sorting/stacking algorithms, which always turned me off of many of the other inventory addons.
Kestrel’s last blog post..Gettin’ My Ku On
Lilith, what rules or definitions did you use in ArkInventory to separate your shadow versus PvP gear?
@Ithato: I absolutely have to try the version from WoWAce. The last version I had could absolutely not filter consumables, herbs etc. Is that fixed now?
To me the synergy between WoWAce and curse is still a little bit strange. There are tons of outdated mods on curse that have up to date versions on WoWAce. And my understanding was always that curse would the end user platform and WoWAce would be only for the newest alpha/beta versions. And I surely miss a good addon from time to time because I think it’s out of date when I check curse but not WoWAce.
drug’s last blog post..Addons: Resources
@drug: What did you really expect from the merge/buyout though, I don’t know what it is exactly about Curse that I don’t like but it’s definitely got some weird feeling going on about it since the beginning. Maybe the fact that it grew out of other intentions, and the whole ‘have a profile and build your social crap’ being kinda weird for an addon site….
I mean, this is a site to search for addons for a video game, I don’t want to input my PC rig setup in my profile… what does that have anything to do with anything :(
I love ArcInvetory. It takes a little bit to get familiar with how the rules work, but once you get that bit, it is soooo powerful. I could never go back to a bag addon that doesn’t sort my stuff for me.
I like the combination of Baggins and Outfitter. I have lots of gear combinations and Baggins gives me a category for gear that isn’t part of a set. Before this, I would go months carrying around gear I never used.
Baggins has good out of the box categories and I added a BOE category which makes it easy to find the gear to mail or DE.
I currently combine OneBag and OneBank but I’m unhappy with them. I think I’m going to give Bagnon a try tonight. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve rolled on offspec gear that I already had sitting in my bank.
Fear.Win’s last blog post..Tailoring Embroidery Fail? Not so much.
Good overall article.
Only one thing I would like to note in regards to Bagnon. You wrote “The only downside is that it does not count or log Guild Bank items” which is incorrect. Bagnon does in fact support browsing “Multiple” Guild banks and additionally showing quantities in the tooltips.
It’s a simple matter of going into any Guild Bank to update the items list, then opening Bagnon options and selecting the banks you would like to be shown/included in the item counts. I use this feature to invlude the contents of my personal bank toon’s Guild Bank and also to not include my main toons Guild Bank.
Scratch that last post. I’m wrong. I confused the features of Bankitems and Bagnon.
*note to self, dont post any comments anywhere before consuming sufficient amounts of coffee :)
Sorry for the confusion

Ark FTW
I love the groupings and the ability to sort my items automagically :D
Upyursh’s last blog post..To 4P or not to 4P.. that is the question
Baud Manifest ftw!
It’s the first bag addon I’ve seen that lets you get away from the “rows of icons” inventory.
BaudBag is what I use. I like that I can make it resemble Blizzard’s default bags or any of a variety of other options (I prefer near-transparent) – as well as decide how many bags I want linked. That last part is important on say, my Hunter, where I only (at least for now) get the haste bonus if the arrows/bullets are in their appropriate holder versus in my general bags.
Grimtorn’s last blog post..The State of the Cow Address
I use Baggins, hooked into bagnon_forever and bagnon_tooltips to get that functionality. I like having my stuff organised that way.

Hey tBag there is a way to change the size of the window. if you right click inside the bag window there is a selection of 5 or so different sizes to use.
@Zilandre Thank you for pointing that out! I couldn’t, for the life of me, find it.
Onebag is what I use
Who says Arkinventory can’t be pretty?

;)
I tried a couple of these addons but found it too messy so I went with BankItems for viewing alt / bank stuff and MoveableBags so the Bags can be moved around your screen instead of locked in place.
@Sora
How did you style ArkInventory? With ButtonFacade? I didn’t think to look and see if Ark was customizable w/ BF. O.o
@ Lilith
Nope, all the config is done with ArkInventory itself. It’s not version-specific either, I’ve had this type of setup since I started using ArkI (a loooong time) I always try to match up my UI elements. =)

I could walk you through if you get problems while trying to do stuff like this, tho.
Definately ArkInventory. I’ve been using it ever since EnhInventory got discontinued. I use a pretty standard setup with custom categories though.

I’m using Mr. Plow atm, its less of a bag addon and more of an organizer addon that rearranges items in bag based on item type.
I haven’t looked at it specifically but it seems to use a lot less memory than any of the other bag addons.
@Antonetz
MrPlow (and its compatriot BankStack that I much prefer in its stead) do very, very different things than these bag addons do. The former alter the actual placement of items within your bags: Item A goes in Slot 2 of Bag 2, and so on. The addons presented above alter the way you see the bags and their content but not where those items actually are within them. So while they are (very) distantly related, they aren’t really comparable.
I use Bagnon but disable its tooltip in favor of Altoholic. Altoholic’s tooltips take into account what you’ve mailed, plus it includes guild bank info. Of course, it’s a bit of a heavy addon if you’re not interested in what else it has to offer, but I love being able to see what recipes my alts need, and search to find who has that material I need.
@ Ithato
Oh yeah man, I know they work in two very different ways. I just think besides the time spent organizing by Mr. Plow the end result of both types of addons are close enough for me. And I think (not sure) that mr. plow uses considerably less memory than the true bag addons.
I’m a huge fan of Combuctor. Once I made the switch I never looked back. The thing I love is the easy tabs and sorting through the coloured buttons. “Oh I need to send all my greens to my dis enchanter…*push the green circle, send the mail* BAM! Done.”

“Baud Manifest ftw!”
PREACH ON BROTHER! Baud Manifest is the best bag add-on ever…and almost nobody uses it. I NEVER have to look for anything in my bag it is always right were I expect it to be. Takes very little time to set up and can even do a few handy side functions like auto-repair items and auto-sell gray stuff. It is the bomb.
Another vote for Baud Manifest; the best inventory addon out there. Please look at it for Round 2.
I’m a bit late and this will probably never be read, but I’ll do it anyway…
I’ve been using MyBags since it was gloriously released to the masses ages ago.
No fancy searching or filtering, all it takes is organisation.
Nice blog,
One question i have and im sure i share it with many others is, can someone do a little item on how to set up ark inventory, I see the way lillith has certain gear in certain areas IE pvp and Shadow. It would be really helpful if you could show the definitions you used. I use ark invent and I have some basic definitions that im more than wiling to show. But they are as i said very basic, like putting my boe’s in one section
