Welcome to the Church of Macrotology

Welcome my brothers and sisters to the Church of Macrotology, a place of enlightenment and transcendence unto another plane of gaming. My name is Chuck and I will be your guide to the beyond. Here you will find that macros are for you whether you know it or not. Many unbelievers shun the use of macros because they fear the unknown language and stigma that Macrophiles hold. I am here to ease these fears with knowledge and help for all people, Troll and Gnome alike.

Macros have been around since our world (of Warcraft) was created by the Makers. We use this language to talk to and control the world the Makers have created for us. We can use this language to eat, drink, call our trusted steed to our side, even preform complex sequences of magic.

You may be saying to yourself:

“Hey self, this sounds like a pretty good thing but I bet the language is too complicated. You’d have to be a Mage with over 9000 intellect to figure it out.”

No my friends, macros can be so simple that even a Hunter could figure them out. I will show you a few simple macros to help you understand Macrotology a bit better.

/target Time-Lost Proto Drake

This macro looks for the elusive Time-Lost Proto Drake in the nearby area.

/2 WTB Frozen Orb

This macro enters trade chat and says “WTB Frozen Orb”. Can also be used to advertise for anything.

/use Conjured Mana Strudel

This macro finds a delicious mage snack in your bags and stuffs it into your mana hungry mouth.

/equip Alliance Lance

This macro find your Alliance Lance from your bags and equips it quickly without the digging around.

All you have to do to become a believer is open your macro editor and try it out. Explore the possibilities that unfold before your very eyes. A whole new world is now open to you. Before long you can preform complicated actions such as these:

/userandom Cenarion War Hippogryph, Blue Riding Nether Ray, Swift Blue Gryphon, Albino Drake, Magnificent Flying Carpet, Violet Netherwing Drake
/dismount

This macro randomly selects a mount from your character screen when the icon is clicked. A second click dismounts you from your current mount and selects another.

/cast Resurrection
/raid Casting Resurrection on %t!

This macro casts the priest spell Resurrection on the selected target and says to the raid “Casting Resurrection on (your target)”.

/cast [target=mouseover] Dispel Magic

This macro dispels magic effects of whichever target your mouse is currently over. Key binding this macro further simplifies dispelling.

Until next time my brothers and sisters, I must say farewell. Please join me here every week for our sermon and praise the Makers by learning their great and powerful language of macros.

I was just looking around for the mouseover macro last night and couldn’t find one that worked. I don’t remember what was different, but this is a timely article for me. :)

Was just looking for a simple Rez announcement Macro :) Perfect! Thanks :D
and I think I will have to try the dispel one……especially in mass for a fast disc dispel and when lag is terrible because of the masses in combat.

Big.Daddy, a mouse-over macro ‘template’ I’m fond of, and which works very well, is:

/cast [target=mouseover, exists, help] [help] [target=targettarget, help, exists] Cure Disease (or whichever spell you want)

It’ll cast on your mouseover target if you have one, else it will cast on your target if a valid target, else it will try and cast on your target’s target.

As a Demonology Warlock, I depend on my Felguard for a chunk of my damage output and to keep him alive my favorite macro is..

    /script PetDismiss ()

You can even make it a cast sequence macro to dismiss him and resummon him with Fel Domination on the next click. Dismissing your pet before it dies retains their buffs and really helps me stay on top of my DPS.

how about one for changing your auras when you are mounted or not mounted? I think I spent almost an entire level running around with crusader aura on instead of ret aura.
