Never Forget Your Chef Hat with Iron Chef!

I’m not much of a culinary artist myself. But I know a lot of players love to whip up various Fish Feasts or other hot delicacies for their friends and their guild.

But you know, preparing all this stuff does take a while. I mean cooking food for 25? That doesn’t even include dessert! The diligent Chefs that have worked hard will have earned the right to wear the ultimate in head gear.

That’s right. The Chef’s Hat.

Not only will you be cooking in style, you will be invigorated to cook even faster!

But wait! Even better! We’re all forgetful at some point or another. Check out the aptly titled Iron Chef from Wikwocket.

What happens when you open your cooking window?

  • Equips your Chef’s Hat
  • Changes your current title to Chef (If you have the title)

Great for the players who have a hard time remembering (like me)!

Thanks for posting about my mod! =) I was just struck with the idea for this mod (BAM!) yesterday, as I was cooking after 3.2 hit, so the mod went from idea to code in a day. I hope people find it useful!

Sounds cool, but I believe you can do the same thing with Outfitter

You can’t really do it easily with outfitter – you can set up a cooking outfit and change into that when you want to cook, but not set it to autoequip the hat when the cooking panel opens. Of course, I am not versed in the addon language so there may be a way to tweak Outfitter. I have both mods and I really like Iron Chef. Besides, it puts little emotes into your chat log when you equip/cook. Thanks Wikwocket.

Far more importantly than auto-equipping,,, will it auto-reequip your old headpiece when you close your cooking window? I hate mods like these as they never seem to switch your old item back in… low and behold you end up raiding and still wearing your chef hat without knowing it (I disable my head from display in the interface panel).

Edit ^^ Just noticed that it does:

“When you close the Cooking window, it will restore your hat and title to their pre-cooking values.”

Would definately be worthwhile posting this as part of your main article. I was ready to skip this one due to my overactive cynicism.

Koth, as you saw, yes it does re-equip the helm you had on before cooking. And for those of you that do turn off helm graphics display, the mod turns them on while your Chef’s Hat is on, so that others may bask in the glory of your headgear. Afterwards, it returns your helm display setting to its original value.

    Does it work with ATSW?

  12. Wikwocket on Thursday, August 6, 2009

It should work with most tradeskill mods, though I am not directly familiar with ATSW. For the technically inclinded, it will work with any mod that still fires the TRADE_SKILL_SHOW event on opening, and TRADE_SKILL_CLOSE on closing.

Ive been using this but ive noticed it has a weird bug of equiping my chef hat whenever i log uot wow. Ive downloaded the latest version now and hope it fix this problem!

That seems to be an issue where you have a mod that opens your tradeskills when you log out. Maybe it is a mod like altaholic or something, that is making sure it knows what recipes all of your characters know? At any rate, if someone can post on my addon’s comments page and let me know which mod does that, I can add a check to Iron Chef so that it does not swap your Chef’s Hat in when that mod opens the tradeskill window.

@Iron Oxide: Look for an addon called Advanced Trade Skills Window. Although kinda moot now, since the default interface does most of that already.
