Elkano’s ItemDB

Move over Atlasloot Enhanced and say hello to Elkano’s ItemDB! While both addons allow you to search for a whole assortment of items in game, they categorize them fairly differently. Atlasloot has the capability to sort by encounter or zone. On the other hand, Elkano’s ItemDB lets you look up the entire assortment of items that’s available. It uses an interface that is similar to the auction house. One of the strongest features that I’ve found useful is the filtering system it has (to come up later).

In the shot above, I’m trying to find some wands to use on my Priest. I can control the rarity filter and exclude levels that I don’t want.

I’m also trying to find a 2-hander for my Ret Paladin.

elkanos-itemdb-2

You can browse just about every item in the game or search for a specific weapon and see how it looks on your character. It’s sorted by item rarity, name, level, item level and vendor price.

The latest version included a really cool feature where you can select which items have certain attributes you might want. For example, as an Elemental Shaman, I can browse mail gear without mp5 or attack power. Or maybe I’m already hit capped and I don’t want any more items with hit allocated to the budget. Holy Paladins might want to look up cross-class items like maces or rings that exclude Spirit but have haste and/or crit in them.

elkanos-itemdb-5

In the example above, I did a quick search for all cloth items that might be beneficial for Discipline Priests. I tried narrowing the scope down just for kicks. Pressing the arrow on the top right expands the filters list. I excluded Spirit and Hit Rating and included Spell Power and Haste Rating.

The results do not show any items with hit or Spirit on them and places priority on gear with spell power and haste rating.

It’s a pretty cool addon if you’re trying to figure out what gear to collect. But you’ll have to do some extra legwork on your own to determine the source of the item. This addon won’t tell you where an item drops from or how to create it. Some reliance on WoWHead or Atlasloot will be necessary.

Would addons that modify tooltips work on tooltips from this? I ask because I have an addon (that I can’t remember the name of) which adds the source to the tooltip. I’ve noticed it doesn’t work in all situations, so I’m guessing that it’s dependent on the source of the tooltip.

Wow, now that’s the kind of addon I’ve been looking for!

Consider this one installed as soon as I get home.

Crofe: I suspect it would. Look at my second shot with the list of 2-handers where I moused over something. I know I’ve got two tooltip modifiers there (there’s that one which shows how much of a percent increase I gain in a particular stat). I can’t remember the names offhand.

If you have such an addon that shows the source, that would indeed go well with this.

Great find, but is it so hard to have the best elements from both addons (filing system vs. item’s source as part of the data) in part of one?

Nice. I did not know about that one. I am going to give it a try.

I believe Mendeleev shows item locations in the toolbar. I haven’t been without this for over a year. I just found out that I need to update one of the libraries…

The addon that shows the location where the item drops in the tooltip is AtlasLoot Reversed. Don’t know if you need AtlasLoot for that to work.

The addon that shows the stat increases is RatingBuster.

I had this addon installed for a bit, but I found that I didn’t use it as much as I thought I would. What worked better for me was Fizzwidget linkerator. If you type a bracket and then the beginning of an item name it will autofill in the rest, e.g. [Kang would resolve to [Kang the Decapitator] as a chat link. I have a pretty good memory, so this works in nearly all cases. The only time it doesn’t is when the item hasn’t been seen on the server yet or for some reason I can’t remember the name of an item.

I’m finding that I haven’t had nearly as much use for it as I had thought I would. And some items that I would have fully expected to be there actually aren’t, rare BoE’s that have dropped since Pre-BC. So far it’s a fairly decent addon, but I’m just not putting it to use very often yet. Well see as time goes on. The linkerator sounds interesting and might be a decent alternative.

Being an item DB, I’d rather say it *could* replace Ludwig (which has less filtering capabilities).

For the drop rate/location, as it has been said, Mendeleev most likely do that, as well as Altoholic, if I’m not mistaken.

I typically run WoW in maximized window mode, so that I can quickly tab out to Firefox or whatever during flights. Does this addon offer anything I couldn’t achieve by say, alt-tabbing to Wowhead and doing a filtered search? I guess the ability to link more easily is one. Are there any more?

Don’t get me wrong, I love addons and can appreciate that some people rather do this than alt-tab out of the game. I’m just curious if it’s worth downloading for my particular play style. Thanks!

    AltTabber: not really.

The addon I use to find the source of an item is InspectEquip.
    http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info9509-InspectEquip.html

“InspectEquip attaches a panel to the inspect window that shows a list of the character’s equipment sorted by source (i.e. Raid: Ulduar, PvP, Crafted…). This gives you a quick overview of a character’s equipment.

InspectEquip also adds detailed item source information (including boss names, item prices for Emblem rewards etc) to all item tooltips.”
