@All complaining about special characters in names:

Since Latin American servers were open (and the accounts being part of the US wow) this restrictions could no longer be applied. In latin america the main language is spanish, but also portuguese, and french. The 3 languages use characters that are not part of the lower 128 ASCII codes (the ones TOS-compliant) Given the fact that there's not a restriction forcing you to join LA servers if you live in Latin America, the restriction would forbid legit names in other languages.

This comes from someone who lives in Latin America, and plays in a US realm (Balnazzar/Garona)

Aren't the various clients different by region? If so, seems like a simple regexp at character creation could catch these names.

And I agree with names like ßlaze. I always have to resist the urge to say, you know your name is pronounced "slaze", right? And secondly, upper ASCII gives an unfair combat advantage in PvP (at least in US and especially if it's the first char.)

I am cool with people using accents appropriately though. Bon jour, François!

I've a big fan of InspectEquip.

http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info9509-InspectEquip.html

Breaks down gear from various raids and dungeons so you can decide the players merit instead of some stupid number which has no relation to player skill at all.

@Falcolas it is only against TOS on US Servers. Non-Ascii characters are allowed in all other regions though. The thing its unless you report the person Blizz with a serious offense report does nothing about their name.

There use to be an addon that let you report those people with non-TOS friendly names that showed up in chat but I think just before or after BC release the API changed and the addon stopped working. The author dropped support because of all the harassment he got for making it from the leet wannabe Tolkien/Anime/Comic Book name ripoff freaks.

Why special characters are bad. They're not being used as part of legitimate names... they're being used to create cruft like this:

ßlaze

Witty, no? Plus, at one point (if not still), it's against the TOS to have non-ascii characters in your name.
