It’s actually called Primal Defense. I remember playing my first Turret Defense in Starcraft almost 10 years ago now. It was a fun co-operative map that my friends and I would play after school. I’d be the guy that stacked a crapload of Photon Cannons.

But I digress.

If you’re looking for a new mini-game to play in WoW, check out this addon that simulates Tower Defense in game. Granted the code isn’t as efficient and there isn’t a lot of map or pathing diversity, but it does have a lot of potential. At this point in time, it’s still a beta. I’m hoping the author continues to develop this further. For the moment, it’s got 41 levels.

The right side allows you to select which towers to drop along with any special towers you want to develop such as slowing towers or more powerful towers. You build on the green while the enemies travel along the brown path.

Five tower types:

• Cannon – Strong tower which cannot hit flying enemies
• Arrow – Simple tower which can hit land and air units
• Fire – Splash damage tower
• Ice – Slows down targets
• Shadow – High damage over time tower

Watch out for this level. I found out the hard way these guys were immune to cannon towers. There seems to be a few balance issues in some of the later levels but that’s been acknowledged as an issue already. Can’t wait for the next update!
